Our legacy projects date back to the 1930s, beginning with our role as part of the consortium that built the Hoover Dam. Today, our Construction Services Group includes specialized teams of project managers, field superintendents and technical specialists in estimating, procurement, BIM, MEP systems, risk management, structural/civil and sustainability deliver a wide range of project types in diverse settings.
For the last decade, we have made strategic acquisitions that better position us to serve a diverse range of clients through broad capabilities. Notably, the acquisition of Tishman Construction (now AECOM Tishman) in 2010 was the foundation upon which our building construction business unit was created, bolstered in 2014 with the acquisition of Hunt Construction Group (now AECOM Hunt).
The full acquisition of URS Corporation in 2014 gave us a strong foothold in the power, oil and gas, and industrial sectors, accelerating our strategy of offering an integrated delivery model in key markets. Our recent acquisition of Shimmick Construction in 2017 provided us with leading heavy civil construction capabilities, expanding our exposure to the Western U.S. infrastructure market and further enhancing our design, build, finance, operate capabilities.
From urban centers to remote, environmentally sensitive locations, from mass transit terminals to water treatment plants, from concert halls to ports, from power plants to stadiums, from natural gas refineries to super-tall commercial and residential towers, AECOM builds, expands and modernizes nearly every building, critical system, and key infrastructure type that comprises the modern urban environment, truly building a better world.
